Recognizing the species on my photos — visible details
Length 13 cm with warm unstreaked brown upperparts, buffy-white underparts, and a faint pale eye-stripe.
Habitat
Dense phragmites reedbeds fringing freshwater and brackish lagoons.
Diet
Reed aphids, small caterpillars, flies and water spiders.
Photographing the species: field experience
Seldom leaves cover; capturing its flight above the reed canopy requires keen anticipation.
Remarkable facts & hide notes:
- •Weaves a deep cup nest slung between vertical reed stems that absorbs wind swaying without spilling eggs.
- •Prime foster parent targeted by the Common Cuckoo in European wetlands.
- •Departs the Var by late August to winter in tropical Africa.
